Preparing to start the restoration journey

So I've had this bug since it was my first car in 2015(? ish). Since then, its started suffering the consequences of being a daily driver. Breakdowns resulted in quick/cheap/dirty fixes which only led to more breakdowns. In 2019 it finally broke down

enough that I had to get a different car, and since then its been a paperweight. After sitting in my parents driveway for a few years, and now my garage for a few more, I'm feeling the itch to get it running again.

My dad and I have always had the debate on weather to turn the bug into a baja beetle, or go the route of restoring it. Initially, I was in the baja camp as I wanted to go on adventures with it. Since getting my new daily driver, which can offroad and be taken on adventures, I've leaned more towards restoring it to its former stock glory. It probably won't end up being show-worthy, but I want to make it something to be proud of.

Today has just been starting to lay the groundwork for this project. I don't have a tremendous amount of room in my garage, so I've started reorganizing what I can, and have begun making shelving that can be moved around while holding parts for the Bug. Most importantly, I took the car cover off of it so that I will constantly see it and hopefully stay motivated.
